I don't go to the grocery store much and yesterday was probably the first time I've been in about a month. I wouldn't have gone then except I had run out of French Vanilla coffee creamer and I simply can't start my day without it.
My bill was $110!!!!!!! That doesn't count the $22 I spent at the farmer's market. I looked at the woman running the register and said without thinking "what the fuck did I buy?" I quickly apologized for cursing. She took my receipt and circled the savings I had reaped by using my PLUS card....$14. I said "Thank you. I can drive across the parking lot and get 3.5 gallons of gas with it!" Good grief.......I can't believe how expensive food has gotten. I bought a steak to grill outdoors......$15.00. When did steak get so high? That better be the best damn steak on the planet. My sisters and I ate at a really good steak house a couple of weeks ago and the porterhouse was the special of the night and I had a huge porterhouse (I took it home it was so big) with salad, bread, potato........$17.95. Needless to say, if I want steak again, I will be ordering from the "TO GO" line at the steak house.
I feel so bad for folks with these prices. I don't have to spend money on gas so at least I am not paying both high fuel costs AND high food costs. Unbelievable. I was talking to a lady on the phone today who started crying when we were talking about prices....she said she didn't think things would ever be good again.
Something has to change.
not to be too cynical but wait until you get your heating bill this winter :) or your water bill. maybe it's just new york- but utilities, food, gas, and everything else has gone up. the word 'inflation' is being bandied about in the economic sectors. i tend to agree with your phone friend- stuff is going to change- for the worst.
ReplyDeletewell my house is all electric and i just got my bill with the AC on 24/7 and it was $150. BUT I'm the only one here using the utilities. My water/sewer/trash bill is about $75 every three months...BUT I will not water my lawn either. I do water the plants but I refuse to water grass :)
ReplyDeleteI felt so bad for the woman I was talking to...she was an elderly woman who was talking about the price of cauliflower. I don't know many folks who will cry over cauliflower :)
