Like most members of the Bush administration, Secretary of State
Condoleeza Rice once served a major oil company. For almost ten years, she was on the board of Chevron, and to honor her the company named a giant, double-hulled oil tanker after her. A few months after her 2001 appointment as national security advisor, this must have seemed too
graphic a confirmation of her oil industry
bona fides, so the company changed the name of the S.S.
Condoleeza Rice to Altair Voyager.
