Looking Back, Looking Ahead

Whew!

Well, we did it. We really did it. Last night was a thrilling, emotional night for me as it was for millions across the country. I burst into tears when first PA went into the Obama column and then again when Ohio followed suit. Then came the big, ugly cry at 11PM EST when the race was officially called for Obama. I was so overwhelmed by the significance and by the enormity of it. We can all hold our heads a little higher because of what we achieved as a nation.

All the hard work and hopes and dreams of the past 21 months paid off and paid off big. As of this moment, TEN red states were moved into the blue column. Amazing! I am so thankful to be alive at this time and to be a witness to this. I am thankful for everyone's hard work that has enabled us to save the Supreme Court and a woman's right to choose. THAT was the biggie that really got lost in the dialog of this campaign. Obama could potentially put three justices on the bench in his first four years. THAT is huge. For all of you out there who knocked on doors, made phone calls, talked to your friends and neighbors and helped in the millions of ways that you all did ---- as a citizen who was afraid for what the future held for our country, I thank you.

I think the future looks a little brighter than it did yesterday. Brighter for the working folks, brighter for those without insurance, brighter for military men and women, brighter for those who struggle each day for one reason or another. Yes, we've all been witness to the long held American ideal that anything is possible if you want it bad enough.

It's not over. We've won the battle but not the war. The table has been set for us to achieve great things together. You know the far right fringe is going to work overtime to destroy what we've all worked to build. We must all pray for our new president elect and stand with him and hold our other representatives accountable. After we all have had time to rest and absorb what as happened, it will be time to 'get busy'.
