Apple, Beatles Come Together on iPods, But Not iTunes

Being both an iPod junkie and a Beatles fanatic I am accepting donations in order to help with the purchase of this as a Christmas gift to myself!

The Beatles and Apple are living so happily together on new custom-designed iPods released Monday — but they have yet to embrace one another in the iTunes Store.

Available in black, the 120-GB iPod classic sports a laser-etched Beatles logo on the front and a silhouette of the Abbey Road album cover on the back.

The special iPod is made for hard-core Beatles fans, meaning you can't just purchase the music player alone; you'll have to spend $795 on the entire collector's box, which includes 13 original Beatles CDs, two masters, the "Love CD" and — hold your breath — an engraved guitar pick. Bloomingdale's is the exclusive seller; only 2,500 units are available.

If you want to use the iPod to, you know, listen to all that music, you're on your own: You'll have to rip the CDs yourself, since the collection doesn't include MP3 files. And don't bother looking on the iTunes Music Store for downloadable versions of the songs, since they don't exist there either.
