Economic downturn compounds problems for America's retired racing dogsPet adoption agencies are pushing to find homes for a growing number of retired greyhounds amid a struggling dog racing industry and a weak U.S. economy that's left some prospective and current owners unable to afford a pet.
Many of the estimated 300 adoption groups nationwide are seeing increases in returns of adopted greyhounds and declines in new adoptions.

We have several dogs that we have taken in and are fostering so they would not die unnecessarily. Now we are also being told that it will be hard for us to find these wonderful animals a good home when they are ready. That is so sad. Having a pet is such a great experience, especially when times are hard.
