Square Foot Gardening

I was thinking of getting a tiller to till up some of the back yard to put in some tomatoes and now I'm thinking of using this method for tomatoes and perhaps more. It makes a lot of sense.

How would you like a garden filled with beautiful flowers, fresh herbs and luscious vegetables, all with NO WEEDS and NO HARD WORK? No more heavy digging or all-at-once harvest. Less watering, weeding, and thinning. What's left is a picture perfect garden you will be so proud of. Put yourself in a rocking chair and start your own Square Foot Garden!

how funny.....my mom just decided to do this last weekend....she didnt want to deal with a big garden but hates giving up the idea of a veggie/spice garden!

trust me- it works. :) i am blending row gardening with the square foot method and it was relatively simple to get it all going. well, except the measuring part- i always struggle with that :) comes out more of an approximation

Actually, I guess I've kinda, sorta been doing it with the flower beds I put in. I didn't till the ground and do all that back breaking labor - I build beds on top of the ground with bricks and filled them with dirt and planted ---- I guess It never occurred to me to do the same thing with vegetables. Hmmmm wonder if Lowes will cut the wood in 4' lengths for me.....looks like 1 x 6 or something they're using.....not 2x4. If anyone knows let me know.
