When authorities discovered that a baby girl abducted from a Harlem, New York hospital 23 years ago was alive and well, living a new life in Bridgeport, Connecticut, some mysteries remained unsolved. The girl, born Carlina White on July 15, 1987, grew up with a new name, Nejdra Nance, and, bearing looks and a manner vastly different from her “parents,” began to question her identity as she grew older. The NYPD helped White reunite with her biological parents, Joy White and Carl Tyson, and they are in contact with federal officials over whether to pursue a criminal case. “It is an old case, but that doesn’t necessarily shut the door to prosecution,” said a NYPD spokesman. Authorities have so far refused to divulge the names of the people who raised White, who eventually grew suspicious of the couple when they couldn’t provide her with a birth certificate or social security number, leading her to come across baby photos that matched her own on the website for the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
