Married, Gay Immigrant Expelled from U.S.

Sad and inhumane.

President Obama recently voiced his support for the repeal of the Defense of Marriage Act, but in the meantime his administration is still enforcing it: The latest controversy is in San Francisco, where the Obama administration has ordered the expulsion of a married gay man who takes care of his AIDS-stricken husband. Anthony John Makk, a citizen of Australia, married his partner Bradford Wells seven years ago in Massachusetts. Spouses of U.S. citizens are generally given permanent residency, but Customs and Immigration denied Makk's request, citing DOMA. Makk has been ordered to leave the U.S. by August 25.
