OB/GYNS BACK OVER-THE-COUNTER BIRTH CONTROL PILLS

Will Sandra Fluke get on board? The U.S.’s largest group of obstetricians and gynecologists said Tuesday that birth-control bills should be sold over the counter and without a prescription—although a change is not likely to come soon. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists said that half the nation’s pregnancies remain unplanned—a rate that hasn’t changed in 20 years—and a key way to remedy that would be to make birth-control pills more easily available. A contraceptives company would first have to seek government approval before the change is made, and it’s unclear what the effect would be for women if it is no longer covered by insurance.
