A Bridge Too Far: Crowdfunding For Killer Cop Michael Slager Falls Flat

The crowdfunding site GoFundMe rejected a campaign to raise money for Michael Slager, the police officer charged with murdering Walter Scott in South Carolina. A fundraising effort set up on a competing site, Indiegogo.com was in operation on Thursday, but money was being raised at an anemic pace. As of 2 PM Eastern Time on Wednesday, the Indiegogo site had raised just 546 dollars from 24 contributors.

Allen West Says Justice System Worked So Stop All The Fuss About Walter Scott Killing

Another day, another brain dead Republican...

Former Florida Congressman Allen West wasted no time weighing in on the police officer execution of African-American Walter Scott in North Charleston, South Carolina. Of course unlike most African-Americans, West is not as outraged by the shooting itself, as he is by the media drawing attention to the killing. West’s blog entry on his web page for April 9, 2015 begins with the sentence:

You just have to wonder how long the media and black activists will try and milk this one in a case where the justice system clearly worked.

His takeaway from the whole brutal incident is “the justice system clearly worked”.

Of course, West overlooks the fact that had it not been for a brave bystander surreptitiously capturing the incident on cell phone video, the system wouldn’t have worked at all.

Prior to the footage of the shooting surfacing, the official narrative was that Scott had fought with the officer and that the shooting was an act of self-defense. This is evident in original media accounts of the incident, such as this article from the April 4th edition of Charleston’s local newspaper, The Post and Courier:

The big password mistake hackers are hoping you’ll make

You’re smart.

You don’t use passwords like the perennial 123456 and qwerty. Or even slightly better ones, like Cassie86 or Cubs1908. Because you put some thought into them, your passwords are better than those, right?

Maybe. But unless you avoid a little-known mistake recently uncovered by password researchers, there’s a good chance your passwords will still be far easier for hackers to crack than you think.

The family of the victim may be resigned to this outcome, but I'm not. I've been that person who's trying to figure out a screwy GPS, and I don't think anyone should get to shoot me in head because I pulled into their driveway by mistake:

GWINNETT COUNTY, GA-- A Gwinnett County man accepted a plea deal Monday for the fatal shooting of a man, who mistakenly pulled into the wrong driveway

11 Children Shot in Milwaukee, One in Her Grandpa's Lap

Eleven children under the age of 13 have been shot in the city of Milwaukee so far this year.

And little Laylah had not even been out in the street.

She had been in the presumed safety of her home, sitting on her grandfather’s lap and watching television on Thursday evening, when a dozen shots were fired at the house. A random slug that seems to have been intended for nobody in particular tore through a wall and struck the child in the head.

West Virginia homeless man loses only photos of dead wife when cop throws backpack in river

West Virginia police officer reportedly was planning to resign after throwing a homeless man’s backpack into the Elk River in August.

According to a criminal complaint obtained by the The Charleston Gazette, Charleston Patrolman Brian Lightner confronted 26-year-old Andrew Joel Hunt on the Spring Street bridge on Aug. 18 over an argument that several homeless people were having while standing in the road.

Hunt admitted that he had been drinking. And when he refused to leave, Lightner arrested him.

After getting out of jail, Hunt complained that Lightner had tossed his backpack off the bridge, including a laptop with the only photos he owned of his dead wife.

The Charleston Police Department eventually agreed to an undisclosed settlement with Hunt after the dive team recovered his belongings.

Teens Deny Felony Animal Torture Charges After Microwaving Kitten

Two Portland teens told a judge Thursday they didn’t mean to torture a kitten when they microwaved it earlier this year. The teens, who were then 15, posted a video of the ordeal on the social media site Vine and are facing federal charges as a result.

The girls’ attorney told the Portland Press Herald they thought it would be a funny joke for social media, but after their Vine went viral the swift response was proof the prank left few people laughing.

25 Dead Cats Found Stuffed in Bags

Public works employees were in for a bit of a surprise Friday while cleaning a wooded area in Yonkers. The workers found dozens of bags filled with what remained of at least 25 dead cats. The bags were found hanging from trees. The workers took a closer look after they found a dead cat on the ground. “Many of these cats were already decomposed, where there was only a skull or a skeleton and then you had some fresher ones where they had only been there three days,” said Ernie Lungaro, director of humane law enforcement at the SPCA. In order to determine what killed the cats, necropsies have been scheduled.

110 People Found in Stash House

Authorities raided a house in southeast Houston on Wednesday, believing a woman and her children were held there. A tipster told authorities he was being extorted by these men over relatives from Central America. Three suspected smugglers were arrested when they tried to run. The prisoners were forced to sit on each others’ laps, they were hungry and thirsty.

Dunn convicted of attempted murder; hung jury on murder in 'loud-music' trial

The laws clearly need to be changed.  A man can claim he felt threatened but has no duty to retreat...instead can go back to his car, get a gun out of the glove compartment, load it and go back and shoot a car full of kids?  At least his surprised ass is going to jail for the other charges.

A Florida jury found Michael Dunn guilty on three charges of attempted murder and firing a weapon into a vehicle Saturday in the fatal shooting of 17-year-old Jordan Davis after a 2012 argument outside a Jacksonville convenience store over loud music.

The jury did not reach a verdict on first-degree murder and a mistrial was declared on the charge. Dunn showed little emotion after the verdict came back from the jury of seven women and five men.

He was convicted on three charges of attempted murder and firing a weapon into a vehicle. He is facing up to 75 years in prison.

Angela Corey, Florida State Attorney, said they plan to retry the first-degree murder case.

Another Killer Using 'Stand Your Ground' to Defend Shooting a Black Teenage Boy

Florida has another chance to deliver justice to the parents of a slain black boy. The state that faced calls for boycott over the acquittal of George Zimmerman is currently holding pretrial hearings in a similar case.

Nearly a year ago in Jacksonville, Michael Dunn, a 45-year-old white gun collector and software engineer, fired at least eight shots into a carful of teenagers after admonishing them about the volume of their music. Two of those shots hit and killed 17-year-old Jordan Davis, an African-American boy.

Jordan Linn Graham, 22, on Monday made her initial court appearance on the charges that she allegedly killed Cody L. Johnson, 25, after an argument July 7. Graham told police that Johnson grabbed her arm while they argued, and she reportedly said she could have walked away—but “due to her anger,” she pushed Johnson with both hands on the back, and he fell off the cliff. The pair had been married just over a week. According to the criminal complaint, Graham had told a friend that she had second thoughts about marrying Johnson.
