Bernie Sanders exposed Sen. Paul as being the same old kind of Republican. Beneath Paul’s rhetoric about liberty and freedom is a candidate who is a pro-billionaire corporatist who believes that the wealthy are entitled to more freedom, and that the same freedoms that he talks about with such reverence don’t apply to women and gays.

Kansas Secretary of State warns Obama might ban criminal charges for black suspects
The level of ignorance consistently on display from Republicans is astounding! It's all fear based.
The Kansas Secretary of State agreed with a caller during his weekly radio program that he could envision a scenario where President Barack Obama prohibited the prosecution of black suspects.
A listener who identified himself as Stu called Kris Kobach’s program during a discussion on the University of Minnesota’s decision to stop including race and other physical descriptions in email alerts about campus crimes, reported Right Wing Watch.
The caller said the university’s decision, coupled with Obama’s orders on immigration and Attorney General Eric Holder’s decision not to charge any New Black Panthers with voter intimidation, would pave the way for black suspects to be exempt from prosecution.
The Republican Kobach agreed, saying the Obama administration had made clear that “civil rights laws were only to protect minority races.”

In An Unprecedented Move Harry Reid Puts The Screws To John Boehner’s Obstruction
Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV) took the virtually unprecedented step of nailing John Boehner’s obstruction by announcing that Senate Democrats will not support any deal to fund Homeland Security unless Boehner caves first.
In an extraordinary sequence of events, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell offered Democrats exactly what they have been asking for Tuesday — “clean” full-year funding for the Department of Homeland Security. And Minority Leader Harry Reid said “no” — or at least, “not yet.”
McConnell’s offer of such a bill shorn of provisions blocking President Barack Obama’s recent immigration executive orders — which he said could happen quickly with Democratic cooperation — was put on hold by Reid, who said he was waiting to hear Speaker John A. Boehner agree to pass it through the House first.
“We have to make sure that we get a bill to the president,” Reid said. “Unless Boehner’s in on the deal, it won’t happen.”
In other words, Democrats aren’t going to agree to anything until Boehner makes the House vote on it first. Harry Reid learned for years of broken Boehner promises to know that the Speaker’s word is worthless. (Speaker Boehner promised that Homeland Security wouldn’t shut down, but the nation is just days away from exactly what Boehner said would not happen.) Reid is going make sure that the House Republicans can’t back out of any deal that is made.

West Virginia Republican says rape can be ‘beautiful’ if it produces a child
Who votes for these people?
A Republican state lawmaker in West Virginia said on Thursday that while rape is horrible, it’s “beautiful” that a child could be produced in the attack.
According to Huffington Post, Charleston Gazette reporter David Gutman was on the scene when Delegate Brian Kurcaba (R) said, “Obviously rape is awful,” but “What is beautiful is the child is that could come from this.”
Kurcaba made the remarks during a House of Delegates discussion of a law outlawing all abortions in the state after 20 weeks’ gestation. At 20 weeks, anti-choice activists and lawmakers allege, a fetus can feel pain and is therefore too viable to abort.

Detaining and Interrogating Terror Suspects
Does this guy EVER tell the truth?
Sen. Lindsey Graham went too far with his claim that the Obama administration has a policy of “not interrogating or detaining terrorist suspects anymore.” The administration no longer subjects terrorism suspects to indefinite interrogation at Guantanamo Bay — a policy Graham opposes — but it still detains and interrogates terrorism suspects.
The South Carolina Republican made his comments during a CNN interview on Jan. 7 when he was asked whether the U.S. ought to raise the terror threat level in response to the killing of 12 people at the satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo in Paris.
Graham said he thought the U.S. should, and he warned that sequester budget cuts would hamper intelligence gathering.

McConnell Promises Republicans Will Escalate The Religious War on Women
Because this is the most important challenge the country faces....
Now, the Republicans' first order of business with Mitch McConnell sharing Senate Majority Leader duties with Ted Cruz is precisely what they did when they won the House majority in 2010; attack women's right to choose when they give birth.

Republican who claims Obama is possessed by demons elected to Colorado House
We still haven't found the lower bound on how crazy you can be and still get elected to office in modern America. In Colorado, for example, the gen-u-ine head of a SPLC-designated hate group has just been elected to the Colorado state House. He will presumably fly himself to each meeting on the wings of invisible bats.

Boehner’s ‘Bipartisan’ Bunk
House Speaker John Boehner exaggerates when he says “almost all” of the 46 “jobs bills” awaiting action in the Senate “passed the House on a bipartisan basis.” Exactly half of those bills got less than 20 Democratic votes, including two that got no votes and 12 others that got 10 or fewer votes. That’s out of 201 House Democrats.
