Does your digital camera take photo's a second AFTER you press the button? That's shutter lag, the delay between shooting and saving an image (also known as "Darn it!"). Speed up a sluggish camera and take better photo's with these helpful tips from Julie Adair King, author of "Digital Phtography for Dummies (Wiley, $25): Hold the shutter button halfway down to set the focus and exposure; when subjects are ready, press the button completely. Use fresh batteries and no more than a three-megapixel resolution, which writes faster to memory. Turn off the instant review mode. Say "cheese."
