Finding Help For Your Parents

Here are some helpful websites to find help for aging parents:

eldercare.gov Run by the U.S. Administration on Aging (800-677-1116), which directs you to local resources by ZIP code. In most cases you'll be sent to your area's Council on Aging.

Find out which benefits your parents are eligible for at Benefitscheckup.org. It's comprehensive and easy to use. To fill out the forms you'll need information about your parents' employment history, assets and income, medicines and current expenses.

Follow up at govbenefits.gov Like benefitscheckup.org, this site screens for government service eligibility and provides contact information for programs.

Answer your Medicare and Medicaid questions at CMS.HHS.GOV This site can be overwhelming to navigate, but if you have trouble, the "contact CMS" button leads to dozens of numbers to call.

Go to caremanager.org, the web site for the National Association of Professional Geriatric Care Managers (520/881-8008) to get referrals to professionals in your area.

Low income seniors may qualify for help with heating and cooling bills. Many cable and cell phone service providers also offer discounts. Go to acf.hhs.gov/programs/liheap for information.
