A report commissioned by the British government and presented to the public by Tony Blair predicted apocalyptic effects from climate change. "This disaster is not set to happen in some science-fiction future, many years ahead, but in our lifetime," Blaid said. "What is more, unless we act now, not some time distant but now, these consequences, disastrous as they are, will be irreversible."
In the United States, President Bush has called they Kyoto Treaty "unrealistic." The federal government spent $3 billion on energy research in 2005, and about $75 billion on military research.
