Taz, who had a bandage change this past Tuesday, four days post-op, was placed in a 'lamp shade' collar at that time to keep him from bothering the dressing and stitches since he had started to rip the first dressing off. Taz would not walk, eat, drink or use the bathroom with the 'lamp shade' around his neck so I would remove it when I tethered him outdoors or to let him eat or drink. One time was all it took for him to take advantage of an unsupervised 15 minutes to go to work on the dressing/stitches. He managed to get to the stitches and rip them out.
So, today it was back to the vet to have the wound re-assessed and new dressings applied. The vet confirmed that he had in fact ripped out the stitches but that the wound was healing and now it would just have to heal on its own. The bad news is it takes longer to heal that way meaning more dressing changes and that Taz has to remain in the collar. He is to have it on all the time. The vet said that he can eat and drink with the lamp shade around his neck - he's just being stubborn. It was also noted that while we were at the vets he walked and stood on his leg just fine, the moment we hit the door to leave he started hopping on three legs. The vet observed this behavior and came to the door and said "he's playing you mom". So the collar stays on - and he'll just have to be miserable until he decides to make the best of it.
Well, I am off to Lowe's to get some screen to rescreen the screens in the back of the house. I also have to get some yard waste bags as I cut few low hanging branches off the apple tree so now I have to cut them into small pieces and bag them up. I also have some large sections of old privacy fence I cut down that I have to cut into small pieces as well. You know what that means? I get to use the chain saw!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh Joy!
Sisters and I are going to 'Gallery Hop' in the short north arts district of the city. Should be fun.
