Don’t let the snow fool you: The planet is warmer than ever, with 2010 tying 2005 for the warmest year on record. The earth’s temperature in 2010 was 1.12 degrees Fahrenheit above the 20th century average, and it was the 34th consecutive year that the global temperature was above that average. The most unusually warm weather occurred at high latitudes like Canada and Alaska, as well as the Middle East, Eastern Europe, the tropical Atlantic Ocean, and Northern Africa. The 12 warmest years on record have all occurred since 1997.
