Flu season is just around the corner and the American Red Cross wants everyone to know that the best way to be protected against influenza is to get a flu vaccine. It takes approximately two weeks for the vaccine to offer maximum protection, so get your vaccine early.

Flu vaccine is available now in many locations such as your doctor’s office, pharmacies, grocery stores and health departments.When people start getting the flu varies from year to year, but flu season usually peaks in January or February. However, flu season can strike as early as October and last through May.

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recommends that everyone six months of age and older get a yearly flu vaccine as the most important step in being protected against this serious disease. Your vaccine will protect you throughout the 2013-2014 flu season.
